Elizabeth, NJ – An ally of Clean Water Action since her first congressional race in 2018, Mikie Sherrill has consistently earned her Clean Water stamp of approval. Now, we are excited to endorse her in her bid for Governor of New Jersey. From her strong stance against PFAS, aka “Forever Chemicals,” to her efforts in flood mitigation and lead pipe replacement, and protecting our most vulnerable from harmful pollution, Sherrill shows she will fight for the health of New Jerseyans and the environment as Governor of New Jersey. This is a critical attribute for a gubernatorial candidate, especially one committed to being a strong presence against the current federal efforts to dismantle environmental protections and funding.
As governor, Mikie Sherrill will:
- Protect our clean water supplies by expanding lead pipe remediation efforts and taking strong action against PFAS;
- Declare a State of Emergency on Utility Costs to freeze utility rate hikes, incentivize new clean energy production, including solar and battery storage, and expedite approvals for new projects to reduce utility costs and carbon emissions;
- Make critical investments in flood mitigation and resilience to keep our communities safe from natural disasters;
- Take strong action against polluters, holding them accountable for the harm they cause our communities, particularly communities that have for too long disproportionately faced the health and environmental consequences of polluters;
- Work with businesses and institutions to reduce single-use disposable food service item littering and pollution.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the largest investment in climate change mitigation in American history, with $369 billion. Sherrill’s work on this vital piece of legislation helped bring over $156 million to the State of New Jersey.
