The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Army Corps of Engineers just released a new proposed rule that we're calling the “Polluted Water Rule.” It would drastically weaken protections for streams, wetlands, and other vital water resources. The public comment period open now, but it's only open for a limited time — this is our chance to speak out and defend clean water before it’s too late!
Why this matters:
Streams and wetlands do the hard work of keeping our water safe — absorbing floodwaters, filtering pollution, and protecting the drinking water millions of people rely on every day.
Over half of the nation’s wetlands and thousands of miles of streams have already lost Clean Water Act protections because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s devastating Sackett v. EPA decision in 2023. Now, instead of working to restore those critical protections, EPA is planning to remove protections from even more of our waters.
Why is EPA stripping protections?
For years, self-serving companies and developers have been looking for easier ways to bulldoze over wetlands and streams so they can pollute our water without any oversight. The Polluted Water Rule gives them exactly what they want. This will only hurt the people and families downstream that rely on clean, safe water.
The Polluted Water Rule puts EPA on the side of polluters — not our communities.
Take action today!
Without strong public opposition, they’ll succeed at putting our water, our health, and our communities at risk. We can’t let this happen!
EPA must hear from us before the comment period closes. Urge EPA to protect our drinking water and abandon the Polluted Water Rule.
